Erie Leadership Transition
As I look to hand over the gavel next Tuesday, it is nice to know who will be leading Erie going forward. Your new Board of Trustees will be Mayor Joe Wilson and Trustees Cheryl Hauger, Colin Towner, Joe Carnival, Mark Grubber, Paul Ogg and Ronda Grassi.
As for the the 3 ballot items, being able to sell the old Public Works facility passed easily as did the the Vista Pointe property sale to the HOA. The Bonanza connection failed by 11 votes and shows the community is divided. It is not clear on what the retailers will do at this point and the new Board will need to determine what the best approach is to ensure retail sales tax stay in Erie.
As for the transition there are a number of items that are in progress:
- Outsourcing the Airport to a Professional Airport Management/Development Firm
- Completion of the New Waste Water Plant and Non-Potable System
- Implementation of the funded (Erie/Lafayette/Boulder County/GOCO) Coal Creek Strategic Trail Connection to Lafayette/Broomfield and 26 miles of Boulder County Trails
- Completion of a Revenue Sharing Agreement with Lafayette and Boulder County
- Completion of the Leon A. Wurl Public Works and Parks Facility with a 96.1 kW photovoltaic (PV) solar system
- Completion of the funded Coal Creek Crossing to the West Airport Businesses
- Support of the Chamber/EEDC/Town Marketing Campaign
- Approval 0r Denial of the Landfill Methane to Electricity Generation Facility
- Approval or Denial of the Velodrome
- Completion of Development Right Purchases for Open Space and Buffers
- Development of Adequate Facilities for our Police Department

“Bonanza lost by 11 votes” means Erie is divided?? You mean among the residents that voted. WHAT Retail? If there really is some retail ready, make it known to the residents. If it is just a pipe-dream, say so. Be honest…….

Mayor, in your Leadership Transition Article, you stated, “The Bonanza connection failed by 11 votes and shows the community is divided”. If this were the results of an opinion poll y0u could conclude that it shows the community is divided, but this the result of a vote. Thus, the better conclusion is, that the community does not want the connection. How many ways does the community need to express itself on this matter?
Thank you, Mayor Moore, for your valuable service to the community. Not only were you the most effective mayor in the Town’s history, but you raised the bar for all mayors in the North Metro area by your openness and communication links. I hope you will consider continued public service, although I know it’s difficult for the family. But we need politicians like you to help us out of our growing problems. You and the past Trustee boards surely moved Erie forward. Let’s hope the next administration continues the trend. Again, thank you.

Thank you for your service to the town over the last six years, it is greatly appreciated.
When a measure passes or fails by a mere 11 votes out of more than 2,000 cast, that does indicate a division amongst the voters. That does not mean anything more than that. The measure was defeated, and that is the will of the voters. Nearly 50% of the voters will not agree with that outcome (and there is nothing wrong with that), but the credo of one person, one vote has served us well for 234 years.

I would just like to take a moment to thank you for your leadership, hard work and the improvements to the town which took place under your term.
The community center, libuary, and sports complex which just resently opened are and will be the strength to which the town will grow and attrack people to live, move and envy our lifestyle and living standard.
The growth that took place has made the Erie residence bond and take pride in our town. I know that everyonel may not agree with all directions taken under the last 8 years what they can and should embrace is the growth in interest and pride in our town.
